Austin combines geoscience experience with data science to prepare the geological data behind Terra AI’s machine learning models. On the project team, he works with customers to understand their data and with the machine learning team to turn it into reliable, training-ready datasets. He began his career in environmental consulting, working on groundwater and site remediation before an interest in machine learning led him back to school for data science. At Picarro, he developed algorithms that used atmospheric methane measurements to locate natural gas leaks in utility distribution networks, helping utilities identify leaks and reduce emissions. He holds an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UNC Charlotte and an M.S. in Data Science from UNC Wilmington. Outside of work, Austin enjoys beach volleyball, hiking, music, D&D, and spending time with friends.
