Joseph Capriotti, PhD
Joe connects Terra AI's geological models to real geophysical data, making sure every scenario is tested against the physics. He is a computational geophysicist with more than 13 years of experience in geophysical inversion, multi-physics simulation, and scientific software. He is a core architect and lead developer of SimPEG, a widely used open-source framework for geophysical simulation and inversion (and is also what powers Terra AI's geophysical simulations). Before joining Terra, he was a Research Associate and Adjunct Professor at the Colorado School of Mines, where his research covered coupled fluid-flow modeling, geophysical inversions, and survey design. Prior to that, he held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia's Geophysical Inversion Facility. Joe holds a PhD in Geophysics, with a minor in Applied Mathematics, and a BS in Geophysical Engineering, both from the Colorado School of Mines. He also serves as an Associate Editor for SEG's journal Geophysics. Outside of work, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys, skiing, playing board games, and building LEGO, with a set collection that keeps outgrowing its shelf space.
